5D Ultrasound is an advanced volumetric ultrasound examination that allows for high-detail visualization of the baby’s facial features, facial expressions, and movements. What is 5D Ultrasound?

5D Ultrasound is an improved technology over 4D scanning with enhanced visualization. The main difference is the more detailed and “lifelike” image of the baby, where features such as facial expressions, hand movements, and emotions can be clearly seen. Due to the upgraded software, the doctor receives even more clinical information, while parents get a memorable experience.
The procedure is performed transabdominally (through the abdomen) and is completely safe for both the mother and the baby.

Preparation for the procedure

• No special preparation is required
• Avoid using greasy creams on the abdomen the day before the procedure
• It is recommended to have a light snack 1 to 1.5 hours before the procedure to increase fetal activity

How the procedure goes

The procedure takes 30–40 minutes and is conducted in a comfortable setting. The doctor applies gel to the abdomen and uses a sensor to display a volumetric image of the baby on the screen. Parents can watch the process in real time and, if desired, save photos and videos to a digital device.
