5D Ultrasound is an advanced volumetric ultrasound examination that allows for high-detail visualization of the baby’s facial features, facial expressions, and movements. This technology provides the maximum amount of visual information, creating an immersive experience and preserving the emotional moment for parents.
5D Ultrasound is an improved technology over 4D scanning with enhanced visualization. The main difference is the more detailed and “lifelike” image of the baby, where features such as facial expressions, hand movements, and emotions can be clearly seen. Due to the upgraded software, the doctor receives even more clinical information, while parents get a memorable experience.
The procedure is performed transabdominally (through the abdomen) and is completely safe for both the mother and the baby.
The optimal time for scanning is between the 22nd and 32nd week of pregnancy when the baby’s facial features are distinguishable, and the amount of amniotic fluid allows for good image quality. However, the procedure can be performed earlier or later based on medical indications.
The procedure takes 30–40 minutes and is conducted in a comfortable setting. The doctor applies gel to the abdomen and uses a sensor to display a volumetric image of the baby on the screen. Parents can watch the process in real time and, if desired, save photos and videos to a digital device.
