GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide)
This is a natural tripeptide complex of human blood plasma (Glycine–Histidine–Lysine–Cu), the content of which decreases with age. The main function of this peptide is to deliver copper molecules into cells, where it stimulates the synthesis of key skin proteins, including collagen and elastin, enhancing their production up to three hundred percent of the normal level. In addition, the peptide initiates damaged DNA repair processes, as well as contributes to the remodeling of the tissue extracellular matrix, maintaining youth and skin elasticity.
Mechanism of action
The GHK-Cu complex binds specifically to the divalent form of copper (Cu²⁺). This bond is necessary to prevent the toxic effect of the catalytically active form of the metal. Copper bound in this way is able to effectively penetrate inside the cell and trigger a cascade of processes leading to the activation of about four thousand different genes responsible for tissue repair after damage.
